Discipleship Class 2007 - Assignment #5
1) One of the quotes from Last weeks class came from Dietrict Bonhoeffer's book The Cost of Discipleship:
"This call to Christ initiates the most intimate allegiance imaginable. An
allegiance that openly supersedes all other relationships."
Share with me what you think this means for yor life. How do you see yourself living it out & where do you see yourself lacking?

David said in the Psalms that "deep calls unto deep". God resides in that part of our soul that is the deepest part of us. Jesus came in the fullfillment of the law and said "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength". Everything we are is in our hearts. At the same time God knows our hearts and our deepest thoughts. The deepest level of intimacy with someone is to give them our hearts (everything we are) through giving our thoughts, body, soul, and strength. I still am learning how to do this...I believe the evidence that this is happening will be obedience to His word that yields fruit in our lives.
God's presence is the most intimate thing imaginable. Walking with God and sometimes weeping before Him is powerful- Feeling Him rock me gently while He whispers into the deepest part of my soul is indescribable. Being a living sacrifice is the most difficult area in my walk with God because I forget too often that I need to surrender everything to God daily, and when I feel myself getting stressed it's usually because I haven’t placed my trust, hope, and centered my priorities in God.
God already holds are lives in His hand, ,but giving Him our hearts allows us to be fully embraced by His love and experience the depth of His intimacy because everything we are is truly His- physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
My relationship with God is bound by my obedience and loyalty to him. He has saved me, forgiven me, and given me a purpose in life. Daily, I am comforted by the presence of God in my life and knowing that the decisions I make for his glory will never be wrong. When I dedicate my day to God, I know that all things will fall into place because of my faith in him. However, in so many ways it is easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and forget to spend personal, relationship time with God. At times, other relationships do supersede my relationship with God, whether it is a relationship with another person or a relationship with my list of things to do. In order for God to be first in everything in my life, I must continually practice the discipline that is required to have a true intimate relationship with him.
This should mean that we are willing to risk everything to follow God. We should not allow our connection on this Earth to go before our relationship with God. We should not be so preoccupied with life that we will not stop and help someone we see in need or take time to pray and read His word. We should also not be afraid to show our allegiance to Him. Even when we believe that people will view us in a negative light we should still be confident in our Faith.
I personaly have trouble sacrificing my my school time in order to read His word and reach out to others. I can get so caught in the grade that I miss out on opportunities to reach out to those in my class.
